Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is the administration of manual soft tissue manipulation to relieve or reduce pain, swelling and inflammation, increase circulation, decompress and realign joints, calm the nervous system and impart an overall sense of well being. Supportive home care exercises and hydrotherapy may be prescribed to facilitate healing and support alignment and posture.

Maureens’ Bio and COVID protocols

Maureen has been passionate about massage therapy and its benefits since 1992. Her goal is to help you work toward restoring balance to the body, calming the mind, reducing pain and improving function and posture.

She combines her extensive skills of soft tissue work - both deep and light - to restore balance to muscle and connective tissue; gentle joint mobilization to help restore alignment; manual lymph drainage to calm the nervous system and reduce swelling and pain and core based rehab Pilates to support healing and posture.

Maureen has benefited first hand from this treatment approach after a neck, low back, pelvis and shoulder injury. These benefits have enabled her to continue treating patients for nearly 30 years; even after being told she could never practice massage therapy again by some very smart Dr.’s who did not know how to help her.

Maureen also has taught Massage Therapy to aspiring students of the profession to pass on her extensive knowledge in the field of medical massage therapy.

When not treating patients she is spending quality time with her family and friends, enjoying nature and furthering her knowledge in Massage Therapy.

Fees for service reflect recommended fee schedule for experienced massage therapist and DO NOT include GST

A mask is still required for all treatments by both therapist and patients. Strict infectious disease control protocols remain in place.

Here at Midpoint Massage Therapy your continued health is important to me. MY PRIMARY CONCERN IS YOUR CONTINUED SAFETY AND HEALTH.

I am taking all necessary infection control precautions as per the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), The Collage of Massage Therapist of British Columbia and as directed by my insurance provider. All hard surfaces are wiped with disinfectant and all soft surfaces are sprayed with disinfectant between clients in the treatment room. Being outside is considered low risk. Please wait for your appointment outside of the clinic to facilitate social distancing. Wash your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer for 20 seconds before and after treatment. You will not come in contact with any patient or other clinic staff as per social distancing protocol. I will wear a mask to protect myself and you during treatment. Please bring your own clean mask. I f you do not have one, one will be provided.

If you have any concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to contact me directly

If you think you may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus please let me know ASAP and the late cancellation fee will be waved. Please contact your local public health officer for further instruction or call 811.

Thank you for your patience during this time and be reassured that with these precautions there is low risk of transmission of COVID 19. These protocols are fluid and may change with further direction from BCCDC and CMTBC.

COVID 19 UPDATE, APRIL 5, 2022 Re: Guidance on mask use in clinic.

On April 1, 2022, the PHO issued a guidance letter to all BC health regulatory colleges, including CMTBC, that included the following paragraph:

“In addition to following masking requirements established by employers and operators as part of their workplace communicable disease plans, I recommend the continued use of medical masks by practitioners and patients/clients in medical offices, private practices and other settings when there is close, in-person patient/client contact. As well, I recommend a continued focus by health care professionals on diligent hand washing, immunization, respecting personal space, regular cleaning and disinfection, ensuring appropriate ventilation, and staying home when sick.”

Accordingly, wearing medical masks during treatment is recommended by the PHO, but not mandatory. However Midpoint Massage Therapy will follow these best practice recommendations set out by the PHO and require masks in clinic and during treatment.

Maureen Murray-Kitson RMT
